Trent-Severn Waterway is located 2155 Ashburnham Drive, Peterborough, ON. It was conceptualized in the year 1833 and finally built between 1879 and 1920. It is a 386 km long canal route connection at Trenton to Lake Huron, Georgia, at Port Severn. Parks Canada manages it under the statutory authority of Historic Canals Regulations. Its natural waterways include the Otonabee river, Trent river, Lake Couchiching, Lake Simcoe, Kawartha Lakes, and Severn River. It has a great variety of parks, trails, and scenic driving routes.
There is a total of 44 locks, including 36 conventional locks, two sets of flight locks, and hydraulic lift locks. The system also includes 160 dams and 39 swing bridges and control structures. Boaters are solely responsible for the care of their vessels during the mooring period. Visitors can enjoy the waterway by boat, bike, on foot, or cars. The navigation period runs from Victoria Day to thanksgiving. Payments to the watercourse may be made by personal check with proper identification or by cash.
